Payments and payouts
Connect a payment provider
Turn on a provider, decide which channels may use it, and know which payment method to choose at the counter.
Updated
This page is about the account money actually lands in, and which of your channels is allowed to use it.
Vendzi does not hold your money. A payment goes through a provider you connect — Stripe, PayPal or HyPay — into your own account with that provider, and Vendzi records that it happened. That is why the provider has to be configured before anything can be sold online, and why a payout question is usually a question for the provider rather than for this screen.
- Open Settings, then Payment.
- Find the provider you want under Payment Providers and select Configure.
- Enter the credentials that provider gave you. Stripe needs its publishable key, secret key and webhook secret, and has a Test / Live mode switch — set Test first. PayPal can be connected with Connect with PayPal, or configured by hand with a REST app client ID and secret. HyPay needs the terminal number and password from your terminal supplier.
- Turn on the channels that may use this provider: Orders, Bookings, POS, Payment Link. Leave off anything you do not want to offer.
- For Payment Link, set the Allowed channels — Email, SMS, WhatsApp — and which one is the default.
- Save, then make one small real payment to confirm it works end to end before relying on it.
- Card
- Taken through a connected card terminal at the counter
- Cash
- Recorded against the drawer, not a provider
- Pay in Store
- Recorded as owed, collected later
- Payment Link
- The customer pays on their own device from a link
- External Terminal
- A terminal that is not connected to Vendzi
A provider can be connected and still be switched off for the channel you are using, and the two states look similar from the outside. If a customer reaches the payment step and it fails, check the channel toggles before re-entering any credentials — the credentials are usually fine and the toggle is usually the answer.
The three methods that do not involve a provider — Cash, Pay in Store and External Terminal — are recorded, not processed. They exist so the day adds up, not so money moves. Choosing one when the money went through a provider is the most common way a report stops matching the bank.
