Point of sale

Hold a sale, then finish it

Park a cart when a customer walks away, resume it later, and find the sale again in the order history.

Updated

Held orders exist for the moment a customer steps away mid-sale: you keep the cart exactly as it is and serve someone else.

A held order is not a sale yet. Nothing is recorded as sold, no money is taken, and it does not appear in the day's totals until you resume it and pay. That distinction is the whole point — a parked cart is a note to yourself, not a transaction.

  1. Build the cart as usual on the POS screen.
  2. Select Hold order. The cart is saved and the till is free for the next customer.
  3. Open On Hold — labelled Held Orders — to see everything currently parked, with a count beside it.
  4. Select Resume on the one you want back.
  5. If there is already something in Current order, confirm Replace Current Cart? only when you mean it — the cart being replaced is not saved anywhere else.
  6. Take payment as normal, or hold it again if the customer is still not ready.

Resuming a held order brings back the items and the client, not the time. If a discount was applied before the hold, check it survived — a cart parked mid-discount is the one case where the total on screen may not be the total you agreed.

The calendar button next to the till is there for a shop that both books and sells: it shows the day's appointments without leaving the POS screen, so a customer asking "am I in at four" does not require walking to another screen mid-sale.

Once a sale is paid it moves to Order History and, from there, into Transactions with the rest of the day. If a customer comes back for a receipt, Order History is the fastest place to find the sale, and the order itself carries the printable version.
